New Zealand Statistical Association Conference 2009
Victoria University of Wellington, 2-3 September
The
60th Annual Conference of the
New Zealand Statistical Association was successfully hosted by the
School of Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research at
Victoria University of Wellington, 2-3 September 2009.
An optional one-day workshop on
Semiparametric Regression was given by
Prof Matt Wand (University of Wollongong), preceding the conference on
Tuesday 1 September.
The
Conference Programme is available online and a hard copy was printed for all attendees. There were also some
Poster Presentations displayed in the area for coffee/tea breaks and lunches (Maclaurin building, Foyer). The hard copy of the programme contained abstracts for all the talks and posters, and a pdf version (edited to remove email addresses) is available here:
NZSA2009_Programme (pdf).
SAS ran a demonstration session of their
Enterprise Guide Software, and explained applications of it in both teaching and research. This was held on the morning of
September 4th (the day after the conference). Click
here for more details.
Talks or posters from students were especially encouraged: as well as only paying half the fees there were
prizes for the best student talks and posters (with a total value of
NZ$1000), sponsored by
Offlode. See the
Student Participation page for the results. There was a
Young Statisticians' Breakfast/Networking Session on the morning of
Thursday 3 September, 8.15-9.00am in the Foyer of Maclaurin building, kindly sponsored by
Statistics New Zealand, for students and career-young statisticians.
