School of Mathematics and Statistics Tutor & Sessional Assistant Applications
The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a number of vacancies for marking, helpdesk, teaching assistant and tutoring for undergraduate Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science courses. The school seeks passionate, enthusiastic current senior students - Honours, Masters, PhD or senior undergraduates with good passes in appropriate 200-level courses. Successful candidates will have excellent communication both verbal and written, strong client focus, the ability to set priorities, manage time, plan work to meet deadlines , and work effectively under pressure Hours of work can range from 4-12 hours per week during term time per course. This is subject to your availability, student enrolments, and meeting peak demand periods. Rates of pay are approximately $23.30 - $29.30 on per hour, depending on the level of qualification and experience plus 8% holiday pay in addition to your hourly rate of pay. - To tutor in the Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics, Statistics, and or Data Science curriculum as directed by the Course Coordinator/s and or the Lecturer (Teaching).
- Respond to students’ needs and welfare by referring students to appropriate student support services
- Assist Lecturer (Teaching) or Course Coordinators with lesson and assessment preparation.
- Prepare for tutorials and deliver them on time in person and or online
- Prepare for helpdesk sessions and deliver helpdesk session on time in person and or online
- Maintain knowledge of course material and requirements
- Attend meetings and workshops with course co-ordinators and other tutors
- Monitor and contribute to discussions on Canvas, the University’s online study platform
- Complete test invigilation (keeping watch over candidates to prevent cheating as well as assisting with any issues)
- Participates in school and or university-wide meetings, committees, training and events as required
- Marking of student course work to the university standards and within agreed timeframes
- Record attendance and assessment marks accurately
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Sessional Assistant (Marker) Role Description
- Marking of student course work to the university standards and within agreed timeframes
- Record attendance and assessment marks accurately

- Attend VUW training and development workshops as and when required
