School of Mathematics and Statistics – Tutor & Sessional Assistant Applications
The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a number of vacancies for marking, helpdesk, teaching assistant, and tutoring roles for undergraduate Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science courses. The school seeks passionate, enthusiastic senior students — Honours, Master's, PhD, or senior undergraduates — with strong academic performance in relevant 200-level courses. Successful candidates will have:-

First Round Application Deadline: 17th October 2025. After this date, applications will be placed in a reserve pool and reviewed as needed.

Second Round Application Deadline: 7th November 2025. No applications will be accepted after this date.

Tutoring Role Description
-
Deliver tutorials and helpdesk sessions (in person or online) as directed by the Course Coordinator or Lecturer (Teaching)

Support students and refer them to student services when necessary
-
Assist with lesson and assessment preparation
-
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of course material
-
Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions
-
Monitor and contribute to Canvas discussions
-
Invigilate tests and support students during assessments
-
Mark coursework to university standards within agreed timeframes
-
Record attendance and assessment marks accurately
-
Perform other related duties as assigned

Contribute to VUW’s inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment

Attend VUW training and development workshops as required
