Description: | Matroids were introduced by Whitney in 1933 to axiomatise the combinatorial properties of a finite set of points in a projective space. Many structures, for example graphs, provide examples of matroids. In a sense matroid theory plays the same role in combinatorics as that played by group theory in algebra and topology in analysis. The course is an introduction to structural matroid theory. | |
