Diversity and Equity Statement

The New Zealand Mathematics and Statistics Postgraduate Conference (NZMASP) aims to provide postgraduate students with a comfortable environment to practice their presentation skills. The conference supports students in Mathematics and Statistics regardless of their gender, country of origin, religion or possible disabilities. NZMASP also provides an opportunity to meet and converse with other students from a variety of di erent cultures and backgrounds.

In 2015 and 2016 the proportion of female students attending was 31% and 21% respectively we hope to encourage more females students to attend in 2017. Our organizing committee hopes to lead by example made up of 50% women and with members originating from all over the world (Brazil, England, Germany, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, Tonga and New Zealand). We have invited one women and two men as academic guest speakers and we have also asked for a speaker from industry.

In previous years some attendees have brought their families with them to attend NZMASP. This year we hope to provide as much assistance as we are able within our limited budget. For example, the proposed venue, Bethany Park in Kaiteriteri, is a family friendly location with available cabins for families and areas for children to play.
