Abstract

Algebras of functions from a topological space to a commutative unital ring (e.g. complex numbers) form a well-understood class of algebras. We can ask which algebras can be represented as (i.e. are isomorphic to) an algebra of functions on some topological space. In this talk, we will explore Keimel's theorem, which answers this question via Stone duality between Boolean algebras and Stone spaces.
