DESCRIPTION:Although seemly disparate\, Statistics and Genetics are two sci
entific disciplines that grew together from the beginning of the 20th cent
ury. From Galton and Fisher to Henderson and Hayes there have always been
problems\, and most importantly solutions\, tackled by scholars in both ar
eas. In this talk\, I will introduce some of the historical problems that
intersect these sciences. I will also share my own journey in Animal Breed
ing and my take on what the future could look like.\n\nBio:\n\nA former VU
W graduate\, I work as an applied geneticist at the Cawthron Institute in
Nelson. My research is focused on genomics\, computational methods and the
ir applications to Animal Breeding and Genetics. After my PhD\, I complete
d a postdoc at the University of Queensland\, Australia and worked as a sc
 ientist at AgResearch.
