Computer Experiments: Design and Modeling Workshop - One day short course: 23 November, 2010

A Short Course by Professor Kai-Tai Fang (Chinese Academy of Sciences and BNU-HKBU United International College)

Short Course Overview

Computer Experiments have been widely used for simulation of a real-life processes, because laboratory experiments and computer simulations cost time and money, researchers want to plan their experiments or simulations in a way that provides the most insight from the limited number of runs. This involves carefully choosing the values of the factors, also known as explanatory variables, independent variables, or controllable parameters, in order to understand how they affect the response, also known as the dependent variable. A given choice of factor values for each of the runs is called the experimental design. In this short course, various kinds of designs for computer experiments will be introduced and related modeling techniques will be discussed also.

Level of Knowledge for Attendees

The attendee needs some knowledge about experiments and basic statistics, including regression and ANOVA.
